There are many ultra-mobile devices that pack enormous power into elegant designs, as well as muscular gaming notebooks designed for gaming at maximum settings.
Chromebooks are a popular option for students thanks to their affordable prices and user-friendly software, and you can even grab a 2-in-1 laptop that doubles as a tablet. And now that Intel’s Tiger Lake processors are here, some of the devices will become even better with longer battery life, better overall gaming performance, and faster speeds.

The laptop’s Infinity Edge screen now has a 91.5% screen share without getting in the way of your favorite movies and TV shows.
Some minor improvements make the XPS 13 2020 better than its predecessors. The laptop’s comfortable keyboard is now rimless and the touchpad is 17% larger, making it easier to work with documents over long periods of time without cramping. With a few minor material changes, the beautiful aluminum design is even more attractive in handling and handling, and the Dell XPS 13 2020 quickly catches the eye as the top model in its class.
2. MacBook Pro 16-inch
The most powerful MacBook for power users
Apple MacBook Pro (16-inch, 16GB RAM, 512GB Storage, 2.6GHz Intel Core i7)...
- Ninth-generation 6-Core Intel Core i7 Processor

- Intel UHD Graphics 630
- Six-speaker system with force-cancelling woofers
- Four Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports
- Up to 11 hours of battery life
- 802.11ac Wi-Fi
The 16-inch MacBook Pro is your type if you’ve been waiting for Apple to make a good keyboard. The Magic Keyboard on this premium laptop swallows the butterfly mechanism in favor of the scissor switches, and the result is a much more comfortable typing experience. You also get a razor-sharp 16-inch display with slimmer edges, powerful performance from an available Intel Core i9 CPU, and robust AMD Radeon 5300M or 5500M graphics.
You can also configure the laptop with up to 64GB of RAM and 8TB of memory if you want to spend more money. The battery life of 11 hours is another advantage of this laptop that does not fall into the runtimes of its competitors. The 16-inch MacBook Pro is expensive, and Apple still doesn’t have full-size USB ports, but overall this is one of the best laptops for creative professionals.
3. Acer Aspire 5
The best budget laptop
Acer Aspire 5 A515-55G-57H8, 15.6" Full HD IPS Display, 10th Gen Intel...

- Windows 10 Home
The Acer Aspire 5 proves that you don’t have to spend much to get a great laptop. This notebook has a Full HD screen that is quite bright, making it perfect for surfing the web, editing photos quickly, and watching videos on Netflix, YouTube, or Disney Plus. And thanks to a 10th-generation Core i5 processor, 8GB RAM, and 256GB SSD, it has all the power you need for everyday tasks and multitasking. It’s all packed into a pretty light 3.8-pound case.
The most pleasant surprise of the Aspire 5 is the battery life. This laptop lasted almost 9 hours on our web surf battery test, which is very good for a 15-inch system. There are a few things we don’t like about this inexpensive laptop; while the lid is made of high-quality aluminum, the rest of the unit is plastic. You should also not expect to play the latest games. But overall, the Aspire 5 is one of the best laptops you can buy at the moment.
4. MacBook Air 2020
The best portable MacBook
Apple MacBook Air (13-inch, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD Storage) - Space Gray...

- Intel Iris Plus Graphics
- Fast SSD storage
- 8GB of memory
- Stereo speakers with wider stereo sound
- Two Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports
- Up to 11 hours of battery life
- Force Touch trackpad
It’s incredible what a difference the right keyboard can make. Since 1999, MacBook Air 2020 features the improved Magic Keyboard, which replaces the butterfly switch with a scissors-action mechanism that makes typing much more comfortable. Apple has also upgraded the Air to the 10th generation Intel Core processors (8th generation and later). This is a Y series chip (which is not as powerful as the U series CPUs), but it turned out to be sufficient for everyday use and basic multitasking.
Apple not only lowered the price by $100 but also doubled the standard memory of MacBook Air from a 128GB SSD to a 256GB drive, which still offers lightning-fast read speeds. MacBook Air also has great endurance, with a battery that lasts all day. In our web surfing test, it took 9 hours and 31 minutes (nearly 50 minutes longer than the regular system) to fully charge MacBook Air. Add to that Apple’s relatively bright and colorful Retina display and surprisingly powerful speakers, and you have the best notebook for most Apple fans.

- Corning Gorilla Glass 6 is tough, damage resistant, durable, elegant and allows for no flex in its display
Like the latest Dell XPS 13, the XPS 15 2020 is one of the best laptops available. This is mainly due to an even more impressive 15.6-inch InfinityEdge display that towers above the bottom of the screen and offers an impressive 92.9% aspect ratio. The new XPS 15 has also been enhanced with several smart design adjustments, including larger keyboards and a responsive touchpad that is more than 60% larger than the previous generation.
Don’t let its sleek and stylish design fool you either; the XPS 15 2020 is an absolute workhorse. Intel’s 10th generation core processors can juggle multiple tasks with ease, and Nvidia’s optional GeForce GTX 1650 Ti graphics processor from Nvidia gives us some serious muscle for graphics and gaming. Consider a pair of impressive speakers and a stable battery life for a 4K laptop, and the new Dell XPS 15 2020 is one of the best 15-inch laptops you can buy.

Asus strengthens its game when it comes to gaming notebooks. Example: the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14, which is powered by AMD’s powerful Ryzen 9-4900HS processor and is a powerful multitasker. But in combination with an Nvidia RTX 2060 Max-Q-GPU, the laptop is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to games. Equipped with a lightning-fast SSD, a bright 14-inch 120 Hz screen, a comfortable keyboard, and strong speakers in a beautiful milky-white magnesium alloy, the ROG Zephyrus G14 is an almost perfect gaming notebook.
But where the Zephyrus G14 shines is in the battery life. The top laptop lasted 11 hours and 32 minutes in our Battery Test, making it the most durable gaming notebook ever. That’s almost three times the average length of a 4:26 gaming laptop. In the end, between its grueling AMD performance and epic battery life, the Zephyrus G14 is the gaming laptop to beat.

Damn, it scored even better than the previous iteration in the graphics department. In short, the HP Spectre x360 is in a class of its own. It’s the consumer’s favorite laptop in the hunt for a top-of-the-line laptop that offers portability, serious versatility, and a surprising blow in the performance department. The MacBook Pro 13-inch 2020 solves the biggest problem of Apple’s other outstanding 13-inch laptop: the keyboard. By eliminating the flat keys of the older butterfly keyboard in favor of the fabulous Magic Keyboard, the latest MacBook Pro 13-inch offers the comfortable and responsive typing experience we’ve been hoping for from Apple’s flagship laptop. But a great new keyboard isn’t all that the new MacBook 2020 has to offer.
The new 13-inch model gets a nice performance boost from a 10th-generation Core i7 processor that, combined with the available 3733MHz memory, lightning-fast SSD, and Intel Iris Plus graphics delivers reliable performance for multitasking and photo and video editing. The MacBook Pro’s 2560-by-1600 format is still as beautiful as ever, and the laptop lasts nearly 11 hours. Apple has doubled the price of memory on the entry-level model, and you pay for 10th-generation performance, but overall the latest 13-inch MacBook Pro is a great notebook.
9. Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon
The best business laptop
Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon 8th Gen 8 i7-10510U,Touch,16GB,512GB NVMe SSD,Win10P 1year
Lenovo has made our favorite business notebook even better by improving its speakers, giving it a sleek carbon fiber structure, and adding some useful security features, including a webcam shutter and IR camera. You even get far-field microphones in case you need a digital assistant. Plus, you get powerful performance and a fast SSD. That means when you’re working on large spreadsheets with lots of calculations, the X1 Carbon will handle them with confidence.
Plus, you can expect long battery life (on the 1080p model) and two beautiful 1080p and 4K display options, all in an impossibly light case. But it’s this classic ThinkPad X1, with its rugged (military-tested) case, best-in-class keyboard, and sleek black and red aesthetics, that makes the X1 Carbon a size. Overall, this is one of the best laptops you can buy today.

- Robust laptop, powerful tablet, and portable studio in one.
- The connections you need, including USB-A, USB-C, and full-size SD card slot.
- Free Upgrade to Windows 11 when available (see below).
The third edition of Microsoft’s Surface Book is of course the best yet, and it is unique among laptops – a full-size portable notebook with a good keyboard and laptop specifications, but at the same time with a screen that can be completely detached and used as a keyboard. It comes on the tablet-laptop hybrid from the opposite direction to the Surface Pro and Apple iPad Pro, in other words, and we think this is an approach that many people will like.
This means that you can equip the Surface Book 3 with full performance – you can put a Core i7 processor from Intel and a GeForce GTX 1650 graphics chipset from Nvidia on this laptop if you need to. As with all the other devices in the Surface series, the workmanship and hardware aesthetics are impressive, and you also have a choice of 13.5-inch or 15-inch screens – depending on how much you want to spend and how portable your portable computer should be.

Dell’s Alienware gaming laptops have established themselves as one of the best on the market. But in 2020 it’s back and better than ever, offering the best gaming internals money can buy. Of course, this means that the configurations will cost a pretty penny, but if you have the money to save, it’s definitely worth the trouble because of its excellent gaming performance. And this without taking into account the idiosyncratic but attractive design, the excellent build quality, and the display with fast update rates. We’ve been fans of this product line since the design a few years ago, and that hasn’t changed. Overall, this is one of the best laptops in 2020.
12. HP Envy 13
A budget and premium laptop
HP Envy 13.3" 4K Ultra HD Touch-Screen Laptop 10th Gen Intel i7-1065G7...
HP has a long tradition of making laptops you can rely on, and the HP Envy 13 is no different – it’s one of the best options you’ll find in the mid-range laptop market. We include it here because of its excellent value for money. This is a laptop that will give you pleasure for a long time. The 13.3-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels is at the forefront here – bright and sharp and ideal for streaming video, surfing the web, and working on documents.
Although creative professionals may want a little more in the screen landscape, the smaller display makes this laptop a portable device, and its solid build quality means you don’t feel you have to be extra careful with it. With a selection of Intel’s core processors inside and some compelling combinations of RAM and internal memory also available, this is a laptop ready to handle all but the most demanding tasks (don’t try to bet on it). Special mention should be made of the audio, developed in collaboration with Bang and Olufsen, which sounds great.
13. Asus ZenBook 14
Good specs and tasteful design make this robust all-round laptop

- 14 inch 400nits Full HD (1920x1080), Anti-Glare IPS level NanoEdge bezel display

- Fast storage and memory featuring 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD with 8GB LPDDR4X RAM
- Built-in IR camera for facial recognition sign in with Windows Hello
- ErgoLift hinge, NumberPad, and backlit keyboard
This is simply a beautiful laptop from Asus, which we like to have in our list of the best laptops; if you want the perfect combination of performance and style, this could be the case, and as a bonus, you get a trackpad that can also be used as a handy second display. If you take a look at the specifications, you’ll see that this is a laptop that is more than suitable for any task you want to perform, even video editing and low-resolution gaming (note the Nvidia GeForce option).
Despite all this raw power, the price is not too high. And then there’s the design: this is one of the best-looking laptops we’ve ever seen, and even the display hinge is a work of art. It turns everything you need with aplomb, and it looks the way you do it – what more do you need?

The Surface Laptop 3 for businesses with Intel processors is a better laptop than its sibling AMD. It has better performance, longer battery life, a faster hard drive and comes with Windows 10 Pro. If the price difference was greater – the Intel model is only $100 more expensive – we could consider the AMD model. Nevertheless, we strongly recommend to go to Microsoft’s online store and order the Business Edition instead.
Without considering Microsoft’s misleading term “for business”, the Surface Laptop 3 is one of the best laptops available. It has excellent performance, long battery life, a fast hard drive and comes with Windows 10 Pro. You also get Microsoft’s sleek aluminum casing and a beautiful display. If you are a fan of Microsoft laptops, this is the best laptop for you.

The overall best Chromebook, the Flip C436, is an excellent successor of the Flip C302CA, our previous topper. The super-small edges not only allow Asus to fit its large 14-inch screen into a smaller case than one would expect, this screen is also bright and colorful. Moreover, the aluminum design offers a higher quality feel than most chrome books. Oh, and I almost forgot: It takes about 10 hours on a single charge.
